Dear AUNBT member:

Members have expressed concerns regarding the presidential search process as described in the January 8 message from the Joint Nominating Committee (JNC) and have asked AUNBT to comment.

Privacy concerns of any candidate recommended by the Joint Nominating Committee should not outweigh the interests of the UNB community. Any candidate recommended by the JNC should make a public presentation prior to the joint meeting of Senates and the Board. Sufficient time should be allowed after the presentation for senators to consult with their colleagues.

The role of Senates and the Board in a presidential search is described in Section 19 of the UNB Act. In particular, the joint meeting of Senates and the Board is convened “to consider the report” of the JNC.
