Members of the University of Northern British Columbia Faculty Association (UNBC-FA) went on strike on November 7th. UNBC Faculty Association President Stephen Rader has called for support to “demand the employer return to the table with a fair proposal that brings UNBC faculty salaries up to the level of our comparators without demanding we surrender our rights”. In addition to fair salaries for faculty, lab instructors and librarians, UNBC-FA is fighting for a range of proposals, including ensuring that promotion and tenure decisions do not rest solely with the President, resisting non-collegial management of faculty, and the rights of contract instructor to have reasonable contract lengths.
AUNBT members may show their support for our colleagues at UNBC by signing an open letter of solidarity that the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) has helped to set up. This letter will automatically be sent to the UNBC President and Chair of the Board of Governors. Additional solidarity messages may be sent to: UNBCFA.solidarity@gmail.com
