Dear Members,
We are writing in regard to the Policy on Academic Accommodations for Students with Disabilities that UNB administration released last week. AUNBT is deeply committed to supporting UNB students and to the importance of accommodating both students and faculty at UNB in accordance with applicable Human Rights law, and we are confident that AUNBT members are committed to these principles.
We also understand that accommodation of students can sometimes increase the workload of instructors in unanticipated ways. Please do not hesitate to contact AUNBT if you have questions about a student accommodation or if student accommodations in your class are causing a substantial increase to your workload, as this should be recognized under the workload provisions (Article 19A/B/C) in the AUNBT full-time Collective Agreement. While the workload of Contract Academic Instructors is not covered under these provisions of the full-time Collective Agreement, we encourage any Contract Academic Instructors who are experiencing challenges with the student accommodation process to also contact AUNBT.
We hope that together we can support our students and faculty members during their teaching and learning at UNB.
Viqar Husain
AUNBT President
